What a cock ring actually does, how to get the fit right, the twenty-minute rule, and when to take it off. Straight advice from an Adelaide adult shop.
A cock ring restricts blood flow out of the penis, which for many people means a firmer erection that lasts longer. Vibrating designs add stimulation for a partner at the same time. It is one of the cheapest and most effective things in the shop, and also one of the easiest to get wrong.
Getting the fit right
Snug, never tight. It should feel present but you should not be aware of it constantly, and it must never cause numbness, tingling, colour change or pain. If any of those happen, take it off immediately.
For a first ring, choose stretchy silicone rather than rigid metal. Silicone gives, which means a size that is slightly off is still workable and it comes off easily. Metal rings are unforgiving in both directions.
Many silicone sets come in three sizes. Start with the largest and work down.
The twenty-minute rule
Do not wear a cock ring for more than about twenty minutes at a time. This is the one hard limit. Restricting blood flow for longer risks real damage, and no sensation is worth that.
Putting one on
Easiest while soft or only partly erect. A little water-based lubricant helps considerably. If you are using a ring that goes around the shaft and testicles, place the testicles through first, then the shaft.
Remove before you become uncomfortable rather than after.
Vibrating rings
These position a small motor against a partner during sex. Look at where the motor actually sits, because that is what determines whether it does anything useful. Rechargeable models are quieter and stronger than battery ones.
When not to use one
Avoid if you have any bleeding or clotting disorder, if you take blood thinners, or if you have reduced sensation in the area for any reason. If you are unsure, ask a doctor rather than us.
